A brazen act of banditry occurred on Saturday, Feb. 15, at approximately 12:54 a.m. in the vicinity of Park Avenue and East 60th Street. A 25-year-old male and a 30-year-old female were walking to their car when two unidentified individuals approached and displayed a firearm.

One of the individuals struck the man in the face with the gun—a mode of attack colloquially known as “pistol whipping”—and then forcibly removed the victim’s property, totaling the approximate yet surely eye-popping amount of $84,800.

It’s unclear at presstime what exactly the $84,800 in “property” consisted of, but a report on the Citizen app said it was jewelry.

The individuals then fled the location on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, or on X @NYPDTips.All calls are strictly confidential.

Recidivist Attempts Rape

There’s recidivism and there’s recidivism. Say it 70 times—once for each of the known arrests of 34-year-old Tyriek Martin.

Martin’s most recent booking occurred on Thursday, Feb. 20, the same day on which, at shortly before noon, cops say he assaulted and attempted to rape a 34-year-old woman on a northbound W train.. Martin is said to have struck a few stops before the train reached its UES stops, as it approached the Times Square–42nd Street station.

Because they were the only two people in the subway car, there was nobody present to stop Martin from smashing the woman’s head against a pole and then climb on top of her.

The victim, who suffered a broken nose, was taken by EMS to a local hospital, while Martin, whose address is a homeless shelter at 227 Bowery, was arrested on charges on Attempted Rape, Sexual Abuse, and Assault.

On Saturday, Feb. 22, Martin was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court. Because of his voluminous and violent criminal history, at the request of prosecutors, Judge Robert Rosenthal set bail of $250,000.

At presstime, Martin is being held at the Eric M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island. His next scheduled court date is Feb. 26.
