Two Violent Subway Muggings
A 66-year-old man told police that at 3:39 a.m. on Monday, October 10, he was waiting for an uptown 2 train on the northbound platform inside the Broadway and 96th St. station. Two strange men approached him and said, “Give me your money!” One of the men punched the senior in his forehead, causing a laceration, and the other man reached into the victim’s left front pocket, removing $18. The suspects then fled on foot in an unknown direction, and the victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment. Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find the two suspects.
According to police, at 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, a 31-year-old woman was sitting on a bench at the northbound C train platform inside the 96th St. and Central Park West subway station when an unknown man approached and struck her in the face with a closed fist multiple times. The suspect grabbed her bag and yelled, “Where’s your wallet?” He then emptied her possessions from her bag and took her wallet before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained redness and swelling to the left side of her face and complained of pain. The items stolen included a Michael Kors wallet, a California driver’s license and various credit and other cards, a total of $100.
Beggar Menaces Young Man on Street
A 22-year-old man reported that at 11:58 a.m. on Sunday, October 16, an unknown man approached him in front of 875 Columbus Ave. near West 104th St. asking for money and then followed him. The 22-year-old gave the other $20 because the beggar was so insistent. Then the beggar started making comments like “Did you watch the news last night?” “I’ll pop somebody!” and “I’m not afraid of the cops,” placing the young man in fear for his safety. The suspect finally warned, “This is your last chance!” and simulated a firearm by placing his hand in his right pocket. The victim accordingly handed him another $20 bill.
Police Arrest Man Who Assaulted Senior in Elevator
A 72-year-old man stated that at 7:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, he was riding an elevator inside 860 Columbus Ave. at West 103rd St. when a 35-year-old man punched him in the face multiple times, causing a small laceration to the right side of his lip and damaging his dentures. The assailant also dragged the senior from the elevator at the 10th floor. Ian Quantano was arrested on Tuesday, October 18, and charged with assault.
Man Sought for Questioning in Homeless Shelter Attack
A 57-year-old man reported that at 9:42 p.m. on Friday, October 14, he had a verbal exchange with another man inside the homeless shelter at 201 West 87th St. near Amsterdam Ave. when the other man struck him with a chair, causing redness, burning and swelling to his eyes, face and neck. The suspect fled westbound on foot along West 87th St., and the victim was treated by an EMS team. The victim said he didn’t know the suspect’s name, but a female acquaintance of his who had witnessed the incident said she knew the suspect to be one Michael Holland, whom police are seeking for questioning.
