Man Stabbed for No Reason on Street
A 32-year-old man reported that at 8:58 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, he was walking outside 983 Amsterdam Ave. at West 108th St. when a 66-year-old male stranger walked up and stabbed him for no reason. The victim sustained a laceration to the right side of his throat and his right arm, as well as a small laceration to the center of his chest. He was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment, and Danilo Bautista was arrested and charged with assault. Upon Bautista’s arrest two cutting instruments – a scalpel and a multi-tool – were recovered from his right rear and left breast pockets.
Young Woman Arrested after Assaulting Her Boyfriend
A 27-year-old man reported to police that at 8:56 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, he had just returned to his apartment inside 140 West 104th St. between Amsterdam Ave. and Columbus Ave. after walking his dogs when he and his 26-year-old girlfriend got into a verbal altercation. His girlfriend then punched him with a closed fist, bruising his right cheek and lacerating the inside of his lip. He tried to leave the apartment when the girlfriend grabbed a knife and started to chase him. He fell while leaving the apartment, and she slashed him in the left hand, causing a laceration. He left the building and was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment. Lanay L. Johnson was arrested and charged with assault.
Knifing Victim Refuses to Identify Attacker
According to police, at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 19, a 45-year-old man was walking home when he got into a verbal dispute outside 610 Amsterdam Ave. at West 89th St. with a man known to him. The dispute escalated when the other individual used a sharp bladed object to injure the 45-year-old. The victim suffered serious lacerations to the back of his neck and a puncture wound to the left side of his torso below his left armpit. The victim then got into a taxi and headed to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment. At the police station the victim was uncooperative and refused to divulge any details about the suspect.
Woman Taken into Custody after Trying to Strangle Her Wife
A 36-year-old woman told police that at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, she got into a verbal dispute with her 51-year-old wife inside 306 West 94th St. near West End Ave. The dispute became physical when the wife put her hands around the 36-year-old’s neck and applied pressure until the victim could not breathe. She said she felt as though she was going to lose consciousness, and her eyes rolled back in her head. Otherwise the victim showed no visible injuries, and Lakisha Peppers was arrested and charged with strangulation.
McDonald’s Employees Assist Woman Set upon by Female Gang
Police reported that at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, a 26-year-old woman was walking northbound on Broadway when she was approached at West 103rd St. by a female stranger who hit her on the left side of her face with a wooden chair, breaking the chair. The victim fled toward the McDonald’s at 2726 Broadway, but a second woman got out of a sedan parked across the street with a silver blade in her left hand. The victim fled into the McDonald’s and locked herself inside the basement. McDonald’s employees called 911, and the two assailants fled with two other women in the sedan, heading southbound on Broadway. The victim refused medical treatment but complained of pain after being hit with the chair.
