Two teens have been arrested and charged with attempted murder after police said they wounded a 7-year-old girl with a gunshot wound in her abdomen in a broad daylight shooting on a Harlem street on November 11.
Two suspects fled the scene after the shooting shortly before 3 p.m. but police arrested them later that day and both were charged with attempted murder. Daniel Idowu, 19 was arrested about four hours after the shooting on 263 West 153 Street, at 8:55 p.m. The other suspect, a 17-year-old, whose name has been been released due to his age, was arrested minutes later at 9:15 p.m.
Idowu faces additional charges including criminal possession of a weapon for having a loaded firearm, for having an ammo clip, and for intent to use in the commission of a crime.
The girl—who was wounded in the vicinity of West 145 Street and Bradhurst Avenue was not the target of the shooting, but was rather an innocent bystander, according to reports. Cops said the two teens had fired at least nine shots, and the girl was struck by a stray bullet as she walked with her father in front of a nearby Starbucks.
She was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition. The investigation is active and ongoing.
