Mermaid Inn To Move Several Blocks and Reopen On UWS
Beloved seafood eatery the Mermaid Inn is moving about ten blocks and reopening on the Upper West Side after a year-long hiatus.
The new location will be at 335 Columbus Ave at 76th Street, and plans to open later this year, according to the New York Post.
The restaurant is best known for its lobster, oysters, and various fish dishes. It was previously located at 570 Amsterdam Ave., between West 87th and 88th streets, until its closure in October 2022. The restaurant closed at that time after the building changed to new ownership; the restaurant owners cited uncertainty surrounding potential scaffolding around the building.
In addition to the forthcoming Upper West Side location, there are three existing Mermaid Inn locations in Manhattan: 227 10th Avenue in Chelsea, 96 2nd Avenue in the East Village, and 89 MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village. The MacDougal Street location is known as Mermaid Oyster Bar.
