The bar’s owners, husband and wife Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, aim to bring the culture and warmth of Africa to New York City in an “east meets west” fusion atmosphere. “This is not just a place for music,” said Leila, who works at the bar. “It is a place for culture. It transports you to a different time and place.”
