Child’s Leg Grazed By Stray Bullet During Early-Morning Drive-By Shooting At UWS Deli
The shooters had missed their intended target and ended up striking bystanders during the July 26 firefight. A four year old boy and a 35 year-old male, who were not the intended targets of the gunmen, are reportedly in stable condition.
Two men opened fire outside an UWS deli on July 26, missing their intended male target and injuring a 4-year-old child and a 35-year-old man nearby.
At around 12:25 a.m., a gray Toyota sedan pulled up in front of the West Side Stop One Deli on 94th St. & Amsterdam Ave. before firing the shots. The bullets fired resulted in the child (who was walking with his mother) being grazed the boy who was walking with his mother in the left leg; the older man was shot in the foot, according to the NYPD.
The crime was reportedly caught on surveillance cameras, although no arrests have yet to be announced. Both victims were reportedly transported to a Weill Cornell branch and were in stable condition as of July 27th.
A local resident who overheard the shooting provided a harrowing account of their experience to the West Side Rag: ”At about 12:20 am, July 26, I heard a couple of loud bangs that I assumed were fireworks, but a few minutes later the street was crawling with cops. There were what looked like 8 marked and unmarked cars at one point backing up Amsterdam for the whole block. I saw them carry a child or small person to an ambulance.”
The W-S Deli could not be reached for comment by the West Side Spirit as of press time.
