A commuter was stabbed nine times at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in the wee hours of April 22, in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack.

A suspect, 42 year-old California resident Michael McCloskey, was taken into custody by officers with the Port Authority Police Department shortly thereafter. They will be handling McCloskey’s case, the NYPD told Straus News. Charges remain pending.

McCloskey is expected to face attempted murder, assault, and possession of a deadly weapon raps.

The attack reportedly occurred at around 5:45 a.m. in the terminal’s Greyhound section. Authorities claim that the unnamed victim, identified as a resident of New Jersey, was reading a book when he was assaulted. He was punctured eight times in the neck and once in the arm. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

The April 22 incident echoes the case of Luis Rosas, a man who allegedly slashed two different people near the same bus terminal in January. Rosas reportedly attacked one man in front of a Chipotle on 8th Ave. after he refused to give him a cigarette, according to prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, who ended up indicting Rosas in connection with the crimes. He then allegedly stabbed another man only hours later, after following him into the subway station at 40th St. & 8th Ave. Both victims survived the assaults.

Rosas was taken into custody inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Jan. 3, 2023, where he allegedly told officers (at least “in substance,” according to prosecutors): “So what, I slashed a few people.” He received multiple assault raps.
