ID Card Machine Swiped
The Trinity School, at 101 W. 91st St. and Columbus Avenue, reported on June 12 that several pieces of ID card-manufacturing equipment were stolen. According to police, someone took the property from the computer room, which is accessible to the entire school. Stolen items include 100 ID cards, valued at $65, four cartridges for a printer, totaling $400, and a $2,500 ID card printer.
ENVIRONMENTALLY UNFRIENDLY
A woman was arrested on Jan. 21 for biting an MTA bus driver after she complained about the bus’ impact on the environment. Cops said the driver picked up Sheila Bolar on West 73rd Street and Broadway at 3:05 p.m. After she started screaming at the driver over the fact that the bus was not a hybrid vehicle, the 42-year-old driver called his supervisor. When the driver stood to address the supervisor, Bolar, 49, allegedly bit the driver on his upper right arm. The incident occurred near West 79th Street.
MONEY TO GO
A man held up a Sovereign Bank, at 2702 Broadway and West 103rd Street, using a gun and a McDonald’s bag. Police said that on Dec. 30 at around 11 a.m., the man gave the teller a note that read “I have a gun, give me $1,000” and pointed what was presumed to be a gun sheathed in a McDonald’s paper bag at the teller. The teller gave the robber $1,200, and he fled north on Broadway, according to cops. There was no dye pack in the money.
ROBBERY ON RIVERSIDE
A 17-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint while walking a friend home on Dec. 28. Police said that at 11:30 p.m. on the northeast corner of Riverside Drive and West 107th Street, two muggers wearing hooded jackets and gray sweats approached the boys. One brandished a knife and reportedly said, “Give me your money or I’m gonna stab you.” The thieves stole two wallets, $27 and a Blackberry phone, according to cops. A 17-year-old male was arrested for the robbery on Jan. 4, 2009.
ROBBED AFTER DRINKING
A man was robbed and assaulted after leaving Broadway Dive Bar, at 2662 Broadway and West 102nd Street. Police said that on Dec. 24 at 10 p.m. the victim, a 61-year-old New Jersey resident, was walking to the subway when two men approached him from behind. One assailant punched the man in the right eye, causing a laceration that required three stitches, cops said. The other attacker allegedly stole his wallet containing $700.
CAR BREAK-IN
A woman’s trip back home to Delaware was delayed when she discovered on Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. that her rear passenger side window was smashed. The 29-year-old woman was visiting friends and had parked her car across from 136 W. 91st Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. Cops said a thief broke into her black 2000 Chevrolet Blazer and stole a DELL 17-inch pink laptop, $600 gold leopard-print handbag and iPod.
AUSSIE ASSAULTED FOR WATCH
An Australian man had his $250 wristwatch stolen on Sept. 23. Cops said that at 2 a.m., while drinking with a group of people on the sidewalk in front of 890 Amsterdam Ave., just south of West 104th Street, a thief snatched the watch. The 39-year-old victim tried to retrieve his property, according to police, but the perp grabbed him by the throat and threatened him. The thief escaped with the timepiece.
SCAM MADE IN CHINA
A man contacted police on Sept. 24 when he discovered that he was bilked out of $1,400 he wired to China. The man, who lives in the West 90s, told police he received checks in the mail for $3,000 and an e-mail requesting him to execute the transfer, using the money from the checks. According to police, a person from Guangzhou, China requested that $1,400 in money orders be sent to China via Western Union. However, after the victim deposited the checks and went ahead with the money order, he found out that the checks were fraudulent.
DELI EMPLOYEE ASSAULTED
An employee at a deli on 700 Amsterdam Ave., at West 94th Street, was assaulted by four or five males and one female. Police said that on Sept. 25 at 4:15 p.m. the employee asked the group to leave for loitering. They responded by kicking and punching the 19-year-old deli worker, according to cops. After the attack, one person in the group allegedly stole a $700 Nokia phone from the counter. Two 16-year-old boys were arrested and charged with robbery.
MAN SHOT IN THE HEAD
Police found a man shot once in the head in front of 114 W. 91st St. between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. Cops said that on Sept. 21 at 10:15 p.m., the victim, a 38-year-old man, was sitting in a parked car when he was murdered. EMS took the victim to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. A shell casing was recovered at the scene. Police are investigating, and no arrests have been made.
