Café Burglarized

Café Con Leche, on 424 Amsterdam Avenue and West 80th Street, was burglarized Oct. 21. Police said the burglar entered and took $100 from the register. The burglar tried unsuccessfully to access the back office.

Vacation Burglary

A 58-year-old Upper West Side woman reported a burglary when she returned home from a weekend vacation Oct. 18. Police said that over the weekend, the burglar gained access to the West 76th Street and Amsterdam Avenue apartment through the bedroom window. The burglar stole the woman’s Dell laptop.

Attempted Burglary at Islamic Center

An employee at an Islamic cultural center on 2 Riverside Drive and West 73rd Street reported a potential burglary Sept. 6. When the employee showed up for work at 11:30 a.m., he noticed a side basement door open and an inside door to the basement damaged. Nothing was reported stolen.

Burglaries in Toyland

Homboms Toys on 412 Columbus Ave. and West 80th Street was burglarized Aug. 24. Police said that the burglar entered after the store closed around 6:30 p.m. The burglar took $2,700 from the register and a cash box beneath the register. There was no forced entry and the store is secured by an electric key-operated gate.

Making Change

A burglar busted into Old John’s Restaurant Aug. 2 and stole $22 in coins. An employee at the restaurant, on 148 W. 67th St. and Amsterdam Avenue, discovered that the plastic vestibule in front was slashed and the glass door was shattered. The burglar also stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

Salon Break-In

A hair salon at 145 Amsterdam Ave. and West 67th Street was burglarized May 13. Police said the burglar used an object to break the bottom of the glass front door of International Hair. Four clippers worth $640, 10 pairs of scissors valued at $1,290, a $200 hairdryer, $40 razor and $70 in cash were stolen.

Café Burglarized

Pier 1 Café, in Hudson River Park near West 70th Street, was burglarized May 2 at 1 a.m. An employee opening up the store for the day saw a hole broken through the front door of the trailer. A safe valued at $200 and containing $500 cash was stolen.

Bagel Store Burglarized

A bagel shop, 72nd Street Bagels, was burglarized April 18. Police said an employee opened up the store to find that the front door’s cylinder was popped. The register, containing approximately $800, was cleaned out. There was also damage to the office’s doorframe in the basement, though nothing was stolen.

Jewelry Stolen in Burglary

A burglar swiped $4,250 worth of jewelry from the apartment of a 77-year-old woman April 14. Police said the woman left her apartment, on West 79th Street between Riverside Drive and West End Avenue, at 12:30 p.m. to run errands. When she returned, the door was ajar and her jewelry was missing. Cops said the burglar stole a $450 pair of earrings, a $900 bracelet, a $1,700 pearl necklace and two bracelets worth $1,200.

Bellini Burglarized

A former employee at Bellini, a restaurant at 483 Columbus Ave. near West 83rd Street, was arrested for breaking into the premises. Police said that Feb. 28 at 12:30 a.m., Victor Gutirrez-Velazquez, who had been fired five weeks earlier, was arrested after witnesses spotted him in the kitchen. Gutirrez-Velazquez, 30, allegedly entered with a stolen key and stashed a cash register containing $1,200 in a white plastic bag. He was found wearing a knapsack that contained a large meat cleaver, according to cops. The ex-employee was charged with burglary.
