Man Mugs Two Teens

Two 18-year-old Bronx women were robbed Jan. 2 at 10:30 a.m. The women were walking south on Broadway. Police said that as they turned left onto West 83rd Street, a man ran up behind them and pinned them to the wall. He told them not to scream and said that if they did, he would hurt them. The mugger told them to hand over their coats. He made off with one $250 navy blue jacket and wallet, cops said.

Apartment Burglarized

A 25-year-old woman’s apartment was broken into New Year’s Day at 4 p.m. The victim told police that she locked her door when she left her apartment, on West 71st Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues. Police said that upon returning, she found the door ajar and saw signs of forced entry. A laptop was stolen.

If at First You Don’t Succeed

After an unsuccessful break-in attempt, a burglar had better luck next door. Police said that on the morning of Jan. 4, a burglar tried to break into a 36-year-old woman’s apartment, on West 71st Street and Columbus Avenue. Upon returning home, the woman saw signs that a drill and pry bar had been used in an attempt to break open her door, which remained locked. However, the burglar was able to successfully drill through her neighbor’s lock, just one door over. The burglar made off with the neighbor’s two laptops, costing $600 and $2,800, cops said. It is unclear if these two cases are related to the New Year’s Day burglary noted above.

Larceny at Trump

A 77-year-old Florida woman contacted police Dec. 20 when she noticed that her expensive earrings were missing after a stay at the Trump Towers Hotel, at 1 Central Park West and West 60th Street. Police said that when the woman returned home, she discovered that a pair of diamond earrings was missing from a pouch that was kept in her travel bag. The earrings were worth $108,900.

Jewelry Stolen from Home

A woman reported that several expensive pieces of jewelry had been stolen recently. On Dec. 14, she told police that over the course of a four-month period, $21,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from her residence on West End Avenue and West 64th Street. A $7,000 diamond tennis bracelet, $5,000 diamond ring and $5,000 earrings, among other items, were stolen, cops said.

Robbery in Garage

Two men allegedly robbed a 31-year-old woman in a parking garage Dec. 17 at 2:05 p.m. Cops said the Englewood, N.J., citizen parked her car at a garage at 513 W. 59th St. and Amsterdam Avenue. As the two men approached her, one allegedly stuck an object into her ribs and said in Spanish, “Give me your bag so we don’t have to kill you right here.” The woman handed over her bag as the two muggers jumped into a minivan with a third man behind the wheel, police said.

Stolen Off the Shelves

Police were contacted Dec. 12 when employees at a Rite Aid noticed some items missing from the shelves. Employees believe that two thieves stole nearly $2,000 in merchandise from the store, at 210 Amsterdam Ave. and West 70th Street, according to cops. Items reported stolen included $1,193 worth of teeth-whitening strips, and several bags of chips, razors and an MP3 player totaling $648.

Apartment Burglarized

An apartment under construction was ransacked Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Police said that a woman working at a real estate company reported a burglary in the second floor apartment at 163 W. 80th St., between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. The front door was unlocked, according to cops, and several large items were missing, such as a $600 microwave, an $1,860 washer-dryer, and copper pipe.

Kitchen Assault

A man was arrested for attacking a coworker in the kitchen at John Jay College, at 445 W. 59th St. between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues. On Dec. 8 at 1:30 p.m., Juan Aguirre got into an argument with his coworker, a 44-year-old Brooklyn man. Police say Aguirre, who was charged with assault, waved a knife around and cut the victim’s hand, causing a laceration.
