Big Trouble in Chinese Restaurant
A 14-year-old girl was arrested Oct. 19 after being accused of assaulting an employee of Wok City, a Chinese restaurant at 153 Amsterdam Ave. and West 67th Street. The 33-year-old employee told police that the night before, the girl and two other teenagers came into the restaurant around 9:30 p.m. and started cursing, screaming and making a mess. The employee told police that the teens—two girls and one boy—got physical when asked to leave. The employee said one teen smacked her and another hit her in the left wrist with a broom. A witness told police that the two teen girls lived nearby. The teen was arrested for assault.
Head Strong
A man arrested for shoplifting added to his troubles when he head-butted a police officer in the jail cell Sept. 14. A manager of a store called police when he identified Nathaniel Weston, 49, as the man who shoplifted his merchandise. He refused to be cuffed, flailing his arms and legs. He was eventually brought to the 20th Precinct and placed in a jail cell, having his handcuffs removed. Weston refused to take off his belt and shoelaces. He then head-butted one of the officers who tried to put handcuffs back on him. After another struggled, Weston was tasered.
Teen Violently Mugs Woman
A 30-year-old woman was punched in the face during a mugging Sept. 6. She was sitting on a park bench across the street from the American Museum of Natural History on West 77th Street at 9:40 p.m., when a 16-year-old male tried to steal her cell phone out of her hand. He punched her in the face, took the phone and fled.
Violent Robbery on A Train
A mugger stole a laptop from a woman July 17 at the Central Park West and West 81st Street train stop. Police said the mugger entered the local A train at 10:49 p.m. and grabbed the 27-year-old’s laptop. He dragged her out of the train car onto the station platform and punched her in the face several times. He told her to let go and said, “I have a gun.” Though the West Village woman told police she never saw a gun, she let go of the $2,000 Apple laptop. He punched her in the face a few more times before fleeing. She refused medical attention.
Mother Arrested for Assaulting Child
A woman was arrested July 22 for hitting her 4-year-old child. The child’s 23-year-old babysitter told police she saw Dorothy Yao strike her daughter in the face with her hand and a shoe, and then pick her up and slam her onto the floor inside an Amsterdam Houses apartment on 216 W. 62nd St. The child received a laceration to the chin. Yao, 35, was arrested for assault.
Knife Used in Assault
A woman was arrested for assault after attacking a man July 4 at 2:30 p.m. in her 250 W. 63rd St. and West End Avenue apartment. Police said Myra Askew and the man were arguing when the 51-year-old woman cut him on the side of his chest with a knife. According to police, Askew threatened to kill him.
Stoop Attack
A man was assaulted while enjoying a cigar on his stoop, on West 69th Street near Columbus Avenue. Police said that June 4 at 10:40 p.m., the 59-year-old victim was sitting in front of his building when he was hit in the face with a broken mop handle. A group of four teens verbally accosted him. One put him in a chokehold while another started to punch him in the face. A 15-year-old male was arrested in connection with the incident.
Assault After Altercation
Four teens beat and stabbed a 19-year-old June 7 at 9:20 a.m., in front of 2230 Broadway, at the corner of West 80th Street. The victim, a 19-year-old man, reported to police that the four teenagers attacked him after an earlier incident involving the group and a friend. The victim, who lives on the Upper West Side, told cops that one of the four attackers struck him on the left side of his head with an object. He was also stabbed on the left side of his lower back and right arm. A knife was found on the scene, according to cops. David Vicente, 18, was arrested and charged in connection with the attack.
Train Robbery and Assault
Two men were arrested after robbing and assaulting a Harlem man. Police said the victim was riding a northbound No. 2 train May 27 at 2:45 a.m., when three men entered the car and took his iPod. They punched him in the face and head, according to cops. After the assault, they left the train at the West 72nd Street and Broadway station. The victim got off at the West 96th Street and Broadway station to report the crime to police. During the canvass, police arrested 19-year-old Jeremy Roman and 20-year-old Jhohann Sucurro for robbery. The third man was not found.
Soda Can Fight
A man was arrested June 3 after assaulting a woman during a dispute. Police said that at 2:44 p.m., Zairen Chen, 50, was fighting with an Upper West Side woman on West 86th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues. The woman, whose age was not released by police, got into a cab and threw a soda can at Chen. Chen took the can in his hand and punched the woman in the face. A witness followed Chen back to his job and positively identified him to police. He was arrested and charged with assault.
